Incongruity

A joint is incongruent when its articular surfaces are not properly aligned, and thus not parallel to each other.

In AVOM the term incongruity is also used with respect to the spine and is the result of vertebral misalignment. Incongruity leads to disproportionate mechanical loading in the joint or spine and leads to degenerative changes such as osteoarthritis and cartilage erosion.
